› Who Forted? : Dana: Late Introduction:
Figured I should give you guys a formal, albeit, late introduction!
I’m Dana. Female quarter and resident ‘Hermione’ of Who Forted? Magazine, named after the father of Fortean enthusiasm, Charles Fort.

This is the Llullaillaco Maiden. The mummified remains of a 15 year old Inca girl, sacrificed, along with two other child companions, at 22,000 feet atop Mount Llullaillaco in the northern regions of Argentina. Her body was discovered in 1999, 500 years after she froze to death on the remote volcano west of the Chilean boarder.
The children were sacrificed as part of a religious ceremony called “capacocha”. They were led hundreds of miles up the side of the mountain to the ritual area where they would have been presented with maize beer in order to help them fall asleep. Once asleep their bodies were then placed in underground niches where they froze to death before morning. Because of the dry and cool climate of Mount Llullaillaco the Maidens remains are considered one of the best preserved ever found.
